Use this when a state trooper responded — typical on interstates and state highways.

PennDOT

PennDOT maintains statewide crash data; individual reports come from the investigating agency.

Helpful for roadway and crash data, not for obtaining your own report copy.

Local police department

Contact the records division of the municipal police department that responded and ask for the crash report by number and date.

Use this when a borough, township or city police department investigated.

What to have ready when you request

  • The date, time and location of the crash
  • The report or incident number, if the officer gave you one
  • The names of the drivers involved
  • A driver's licence or other identification
  • A method of payment — most agencies charge a small fee

Agency procedures, fees and processing times change. Always confirm the current process with the agency before paying a fee or relying on a timeline. This tool does not request a report for you.
